Round the Table is about food, drinks, people, ideas – all against the backdrop of the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area.  And it’s about life, as it happens in our house, around the kitchen table.  And friends’ tables, and restaurant tables, picnic blankets as tables, and, well, you get the idea.  Welcome to the table!

My name is Janice.  I’m a native Californian and have lived in California my entire life except for 3 summers in Italy and 2 years in Austin, Tx.  I’m Editor-in-Chief of CookBytes.net.  I live with my spouse (Prop 8 or no Prop 8), our son, 3 dogs, and a cat in our smalltiny house with gorgeous gardens in the hills of the Peninsula.  I’m a serial house remodeler, an organization development consultant, and a compulsive vegetable gardener.  I generally hate shopping so much that I would rather make hamburger buns from scratch than stop by the grocery store for them.  Our only table is literally the center of our house, in the middle of a kitchen that has no dishwasher and approximately 3 linear feet of counter space.  My Wolf range, acquired in Texas, sits in a lonely storage facility, awaiting the magic day when we can remodel the kitchen.  If I thought I had a chance in the world, I would try to pass an amendment to the State’s Constitution so that people could legally marry their commercial-style stoves.  That, my friend or foe, is what you should really be afraid of.

Great Blog! Entertaining and original with recipes that even my busy self can consider accomplishing. Wish me luck!

I’m looking forward to your blog. Like Theresia, I may try my hand at a few of these recipes myself! My problem is that I’m usually wearing more of the recipe than getting to eat it….though my shirt has to get clean somehow!

You have a lovely blog; I discovered it after finding that you’d visited mine! Thank you… :)

Is there anything more wonderful than bread? Oh…I guess there is: Can I ’store’ that beautiful stove for you? I promise to take good care of it.

Love the site! I stubmled across your searching for Blackberry Plum Jam recipes. My husband and I made a batch this past weekend and were impressed with how easy and tasty it was. Please keep the posts coming!

Hi Janice – I’m enjoying the lovely design and recipes on your blog so far! Agreed about Prop 8 being a sucky surprise – it affected my family too even over in NZ because my sister’s gf is from California and they will now have to jump through A LOT more hoops when they go to live there :( Off to see more!

Janice, I LOVE your blog!! And I’m so envious of not only your amazing cooking skills, but also your beautiful food photography – are you doing the photos yourself? If so, I need a lesson. My husband and I bought a house last year with a huge kitchen, which has put me in a baking frenzy! And I like to photograph the things I bake, but don’t know a thing about food styling, etc. I look forward to keeping up with you via your blog.

Hi Gina! Yes, I do the photos myself. Thank you for the compliments. It’s not easy to come up with decent pictures, because I use an older Kodak EasyShare z740. Can’t believe I’m admitting that! I went to a food blogger conference last fall and never took one photo because I was too embarrassed to drag my camera out in front of everyone (after one woman was rather horrified when I said I used a Kodak). But for now, it’s what I’ve got, and it will do. So jealous of your big kitchen and your photography skills; I’m sure your photos of your baking adventures are gorgeous.
